My cactus core jewellery collection is formed from prickly pear fibre, otherwise known as cactus skeleton. Cactus pads are dried into thin pieces of wood which resemble ancient root systems. Each piece is completely unique, and would be difficult to recreate. I believe that only nature can create such a fascinating texture.
I made a rubber mould from one fibre, and then used this to create a sterling silver sheet. I cut out discs from the silver sheet and mounted each disc with a smooth silver border, giving a striking contrast of a textured and smooth surface. These discs have become the key elements of my cactus core jewellery collection. As always, each piece is handmade in my Derbyshire workshop.
